Cobourg, ON – Sixteen brave men will be slipping into red stilettos at noon on Friday, June 10^th at Northumberland Mall and participating in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in an effort to help trample domestic violence.  This international men's march is organized in an effort to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence, while on a local level, raise funds and awareness for Northumberland Services for Women.

Drawing from the saying "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes," Walk a Mile in Her Shoes literally challenges men to walk one mile in women's four inch high-heel shoes.  The event is aimed at getting men involved in the cause of eliminating domestic violence, by inviting them to collect pledges from the community in return for their participation in the walk. 

“Northumberland Mall is proud to once again host the kick off for the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. Over the past three years, the response to the event from the mall community has been incredible, raising over $7,900 for Northumberland Services for Women,” says Northumberland Mall’s Marketing Manager Alexis Smith. “This year male representatives from Alliance Security Systems, Bell, GoodLife Fitness Club, Metro, Northshore Lanes, Scotiabank and SportChek are putting their best foot forward in support of this successful fundraiser.” she adds. 

The June 10^th event at Northumberland Mall is a preview of the main walk scheduled for Saturday, June 11^th in downtown Cobourg.  Participants in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will slip into their stilettos at 12:00pm and proceed to complete three full laps of the interior of the mall, equal to one mile.  Afterwards, participants and their supporters are invited to join Northumberland Mall and Northumberland Services for Women for coffee and treats!
